FCA Canada today confirmed that its Unifor employees have ratified a new three-year agreement that builds on the company`s commitment to expand its Canadian production with investments of up to $1.58 billion and the creation of 2,000 new jobs. Unifor had previously entered into a preliminary agreement with Ford Canada employees, and the framework of this agreement was to serve as a model for discussions with FCA and General Motors. Contract negotiations with GM are not yet scheduled. The agreement covers Fiat-Chrysler`s 9,000 Canadian employees, including Windsor Assembly Plant employees. At a press conference in Toronto on Thursday, said unifor National President Jerry Dias that the deal includes an investment of $1.3 billion to $1.5 billion in the Windsor Assembly plan. FCA is committed to installing a new platform in the facility, which will be able to produce many hybrid and electric models. Dias estimates that this will increase employment to up to 2,000 positions, including the 425 people currently laid off due to the decline in the third position.
